Objectives

The primary aim of the Save the Environment: Become a Green Hero project was to address the urgent environmental challenges posed by climate change and plastic pollution by fostering sustainable lifestyles among European youth. This initiative sought to bridge the prevailing gap between theoretical environmental knowledge and practical daily application through the use of non-formal education. By engaging participants in immersive learning experiences, the project aimed to transform awareness into actionable habits, thereby empowering young people to implement sustainable changes within their home countries. Specific project objectives were multifaceted, focusing heavily on non formal education, advocacy, and citizenship. The project sought to increase participants' understanding of the anthropogenic causes and systemic effects of global warming and environmental degradation. Furthermore, it aimed to develop and disseminate innovative strategies for adopting plastic-free lifestyles, with a specific emphasis on reducing the consumption of single-use plastics. By cultivating a sense of civic responsibility, the initiative empowered young people to act as environmental ambassadors capable of leading constructive initiatives within their local communities. Methodologically, the project equipped youth workers and participants with replicable non-formal learning tools designed for scalability across Europe. Additionally, it focused on enhancing consumer consciousness by educating participants on making informed, eco-friendly choices. Finally, the project established a stable transnational network of organizations committed to environmental sustainability across Portugal, Spain, Türkiye, Romania, Poland, and Cyprus.
