Quality and innovation of youth workReception and integration of refugees and migrantsInclusion of marginalised young people

Objectives

With this project, we aimed to bring together 28 youth workers, educators, social workers, and youth leaders from seven European countries: Portugal, Latvia, Romania, Poland, Germany, Spain, and Bulgaria. These participants work directly with young refugees, newly arrived migrants, and marginalized youth, often in challenging social and economic conditions. Our goal was to strengthen their professional competencies, equip them with practical tools, and enhance their ability to support young people facing integration challenges. We wanted to create an engaging and productive learning environment where youth workers could exchange best practices, develop new approaches, and collaborate on common issues. Through the project, we sought to achieve the following results: - Enhance the professional skills of youth workers by introducing effective integration strategies and non-formal education methods applicable to work with young refugees and migrants. - Promote an inclusive and welcoming youth work environment, where young people of different cultural backgrounds feel safe and supported. - Encourage peer learning and networking, enabling youth workers from different countries to exchange successful integration practices and methods. - Develop an open-access online guide that includes training materials, tutorials, practical tips, and resources to help youth workers apply project topics in their local contexts. - Expand the impact of the project beyond the training course, ensuring that youth organizations, informal groups, and educational institutions in Europe benefit from the shared knowledge and methodologies. - Raise awareness of Erasmus Plus and its opportunities, particularly for youth workers and organizations that have not participated in such programs before. By implementing this project, we wanted to ensure that youth workers are better prepared, more confident, and equipped with the necessary tools to help young refugees and migrants integrate into their new communities. The project had next clear objectives that guided all activities and learning outcomes: - Improve youth workers' skills in working with refugees and migrants * Provide youth workers with practical tools, educational methods, and strategies to support young refugees and migrants. * Ensure that participants can effectively respond to challenges related to integration and social inclusion. - Promote inclusion and cultural understanding * Encourage youth workers to create welcoming and inclusive spaces where young people from diverse backgrounds feel safe and valued. * Develop their ability to recognize and address cultural differences, fostering a sense of belonging for migrants and refugees. - Facilitate the exchange of best practices * Provide a platform where youth workers from different countries can share and learn from each other’s experiences in working with migrants. * Identify and document successful integration strategies that can be applied across different communities in Europe. - Support cross-cultural communication and conflict resolution * Help youth workers develop stronger intercultural communication skills, enabling them to work more effectively with diverse groups. * Train participants in non-violent communication and conflict resolution techniques, essential for reducing misunderstandings in multicultural settings. - Increase awareness of Erasmus Plus opportunities for youth workers and organizations * Ensure that youth workers and youth organizations better understand the Erasmus Plus programme, particularly in the context of projects supporting refugee and migrant integration. * Encourage participants and partner organizations to apply for future Erasmus Plus projects and integrate EU-funded opportunities into their work. - Contribute to EU-wide efforts in response to migration challenges, particularly in relation to the Ukraine crisis * Align the project with European priorities on social inclusion and refugee support, contributing to ongoing EU efforts. * Provide practical recommendations for improving integration policies at the local and national level. This project was not just about training individual youth workers - it was designed to have a lasting impact on youth work practices across Europe by ensuring that participants, their organizations, and the broader European youth sector benefit from the knowledge, methodologies, and results produced.
