Today we're experiencing very particular challenges. Societies are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and working to reverse all the harmful effects it has brought on physical and mental health, socialization, employment, education, the economy, etc. At the same time, there's a new economic crisis happening, triggered by armed conflicts in the European territory, bringing about an energy crisis that is closely related to the already long climate crisis. If it is already widely recognized by the main decision-making bodies that young people are a fundamental part to adequately respond to these challenges, with multiple strategies and action plans existing that place youth at the heart of solutions to current social problems. On the other hand, we perceive that young people are still disconnected from democratic life. There is a mismatch between theory and practice, between the institutional and the field, and responses are urgently needed to facilitate the connection of young people to formal and non-formal participation systems. Especially when we talk about young people in vulnerable situations, there are not enough answers, resources, opportunities, and professionals to enable them to participate in democratic life in a more active, conscious, critical and motivated way. We explored with Youth Workers the EU Youth Strategy and Youth Goals as a basis for their future work with young people. We used versatile and innovative tools, training these professionals to use them in interventions with young people, in line with the Youth Goals, to promote essential skills in young people for their active participation. The general objective was to reinforce the youth sector's preparation to promote the participation of young people in democratic life. The specific objectives were: >Promotion of critical reflection among Youth Workers on the EU Youth Strategy and the Youth Goals. >Training Youth Workers to, through innovative methodologies (storytelling or game-based learning), develop competences for young people to participate in democratic life. >Reinforcement networking within the youth sector, namely between youth workers and youth organisations.
