WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE The “Active Hope in a World of Collapse: Embracing Challenges and Opportunities” project addresses urgent environmental needs and empowers youth workers, 11 consortium partners and Tamera Global Campus partner countries. Inspired by the concept of "Active Hope," the project seeks to create a 10-day training course based on Joana Macy's extended version of the spiral of "The Work that Reconnects" and the experience of Tamera, a community and ecovillage with over 40 years of established tools and practices. We want participants to gain more capacity to face, sense and grief the ongoing derangement and collapse of ecological, economic and social systems in times of climate crisis and war and, at the same time, anchor in a deep knowing and feeling of gratitude of being alive on our planet earth. Furthermore, we want to show that those challenges contain an ample opportunity for human evolution: consciously choosing the path for reconnection with all life and creating a global culture of regeneration in togetherness as one human race. We aim to create a deep sense of hope and perspective within the participants and their youthwork for the present and future. Following the quote of Václav Havel, “Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something is worth doing no matter how it turns out.” we want to empower participants to actively bring about what they believe in, what they think and feel is worth engaging in. Rather than offering a toolbox of skills, methods, and quick-fix solutions, our training aims at changing our relation to life – shifting our collective consciousness from separation to reunion. At the same time, we will convey knowledge and experience that offer concrete solutions for regenerative ecology & technology, water management and social change that are applicable and adaptable in different socio-cultural and environmental contexts. OBJECTIVES The project's objectives include enhancing the quality and quantity of youth work, deepening the integration of environmental, political, and social issues through immersive learning, and strengthening a network of sustainable organizations working on green transition while empowering young people in active participation and decision-making. The overarching goal is to instil a deep sense of hope and perspective within participants and their youth work by actively engaging them in creating a future they believe in. The project seeks to shift collective consciousness from separation to reunion, offering a toolbox of skills and a transformation in how individuals relate to life and the planet. This project aligns closely with Erasmus+ objectives in multiple ways: 1. Learning Mobility and Cooperation: It empowers youth workers in Portugal and partner countries with non-formal education tools for green transition, promoting learning mobility and professional development. Collaboration with European and global partner organizations enhances youth work cooperation, quality, and innovation. 2. Inclusion & Diversity: The project actively addresses issues of diversity and inclusion, fostering open communication and education on systems of oppression and community building. 3. Participation in Democratic Life: It encourages active engagement in addressing urgent environmental challenges. It aligns with the "Going Forth" stage of the Work That Reconnects framework, promoting youth participation and decision-making. 4. Environment & Climate Crisis: The project contributes to S.D.G. Goal 13 on Climate Action and the European Green Deal, empowering participants to advocate for climate action and sustainable development. In essence, this project equips youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to address global environmental challenges and promote sustainability at the local and global levels. It fosters a sense of responsibility, and the youth workers would be equipped to inspire young people to take meaningful action for a sustainable future. The host and applicant organization, G.R.A.C.E. Association (Tamera) in Portugal, is the foundation for this immersive learning experience. Tamera is a private international education and Peace Research Centre that aims to build peace research villages in Europe and worldwide. With mutual support, transparency, and responsible participation principles, Tamera operates as an intentional community and offers a model for non-violent co-habitation between humans and nature. In summary, the project's core idea is to empower youth workers with tools for personal and professional growth, environmental awareness, and societal transformation in the face of global crises. By infusing the principles of Active Hope, the project seeks to inspire participants to shape a more sustainable and interconnected world actively, transcending the uncertainty and challenges of our times.
