Go4Green aimed to promote and strengthen the role of young people in combating climate change by empowering both youth and youth workers to intervene in their communities in an informed, active, and sustainable way. Among its main objectives was the creation of opportunities to develop transversal skills through non-formal education, sport, and contact with nature, enabling young people to acquire tools to better understand the climate issue and take local action. The project also sought to equip youth workers with the capacity to design and implement activities that engaged young people and the wider community, reinforcing their educational role and the promotion of environmental sustainability. Finally, it aimed to inspire other organisations and local stakeholders through the creation and dissemination of manuals and testimonials, contributing to broader awareness-raising and the replication of good practices in different contexts at regional, national, and European levels.
This application arose from the urgent need to raise awareness and empower young people to combat climate change, a global issue with significant impacts on health, education, and community life. The organisations involved have found that young people show great interest and commitment to this topic, but they lack structured opportunities that allow them to acquire transversal skills and act in an informed way within their communities. It was also identified that there is a need to strengthen the role of Youth Workers by equipping them with non-formal education methods, strategies connected to sport and contact with nature, and knowledge on environmental sustainability. These tools have proven essential for creating relevant learning opportunities for young people and promoting community participation. Thus, the project seeks to address the lack of specific training, the need to foster active youth participation, and the goal of involving the entire community in mitigating climate change.
