The Rise Above Labels project was initiated with the aim of addressing the issue of stereotypes and discrimination among young people from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Our objectives were focused on educating young people to become more tolerant and open towards those around them, thus contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and harmonious society. This project aimed to continue and improve the work of our organization’s team in previous culture-related projects, such as Cultures Unite, and also to raise awareness among young people about these concepts. Within the framework of the project, we set ourselves, for the team and the participants at the mobility, the following objectives: Stereotype Awareness: Our first objective was to help participants identify their own stereotypes and prejudices. This was achieved through interactive activities that encouraged personal reflection and open discussions about the various forms of discrimination we encounter in our daily lives. We used non-formal education methods, such as role-playing, focus groups and case studies, to facilitate a deeper understanding of how stereotypes affect our perception of others. Promoting empathy and acceptance: another objective that we set was to encourage young people to develop empathy for others. Through activities involving personal stories and shared reflections, we helped participants put themselves in the shoes of others and understand the difficulties faced by those around them. The aim was to build a community based on respect and support and to increase the general level of confidence. Developing communication skills: we wanted to encourage young people to develop non-violent communication skills. Through dedicated workshops and sessions, we provided participants with tools and techniques to improve dialogue and reduce conflicts. This objective was essential, as effective communication is key to promoting tolerance and mutual understanding. As important as the others objective was creating an international network. By bringing together young people from four different countries — Romania, Italy, Spain and Turkey — we wanted to encourage intercultural collaboration. Through meetings and discussions between young people, we facilitated a process of exchanging ideas and good practices, thus contributing to creating lasting connections and encouraging youth mobility. Another objective for the project and after the project( as was mentioned, in the perspective of ensuring continuity for our ideas and activities) was related to the dissemination and the impact of the project. Due to the visual materials and social media posts we aimed to share the experiences and lessons learned with a wider audience and to determine till what point the initial objectives were achieved for us, for the partners and the participants. At the end of the day we can conclude that the aim was to contribute to the formation of a generation of young people who are more aware of stereotypes, develop effective communication skills, show empathy and are actively involved in promoting diversity and inclusion, in their communities, in Europe and worldwide. Because objectives were designed not only to educate strictly the participants, but also to create an impact in the communities they come from, in their organisations, by changing mentalities and promoting positive values among the younger generations.
