The 'Reducing Food Waste 4 Sustainable Communities' project successfully met all of its original objectives. Through collaborative efforts, we achieved significant outcomes in addressing the humanitarian and ecological impacts of food waste and raising awareness on related topics. Here is a summary of the objectives achieved: 1. To increase understanding of the ecological and economic impact of wasted food and to increase awareness about composting, recycling, and the proper way to read product labels; - These were the main goals of the project which were accomplished through workshops, discussions, debates and theatre plays. Participants gained in-depth insights into the environmental consequences of food waste, as well as the economic implications for households and communities. Furthermore they gained insight on the importance of composting, recycling, and the proper way to read product labels and how to practice it on daily level. 2. To increase knowledge and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals; - The SDGs were addressed in a dedicated session where participants were tasked with researching and presenting all 17 SDGs. During this activity, they explored how each goal connects to the issue of food waste. Through their discussions and presentations, participants gained the valuable insight that, unexpectedly, food waste is linked in some way to all 17 SDGs, demonstrating its broad and far-reaching impact. 3. To encourage and foster intercultural understanding through the active participation of participants hailing from a variety of nations and cultural backgrounds; - With the everyday interaction, sharing room with people from different countries, representing the country’s traditions, food and drinks during the intercultural nights, the participants have broken stereotypes and prejudices and have increased their tolerance and cultural understanding of the other participating cultures. 4. To educate at least 300 individuals from diverse backgrounds about composting, recycling, and proper product label with the dissemination of the project results. - This goal was accomplished through the implementation and dissemination phases of the project, during the implementation phase 42 participants including 18 participants with fewer opportunities have increased their knowledge on the topic and have shared this knowledge in the follow-up phase with which we surpass the number of 300 individuals from the goal. 5. To create a network of partner organizations across Europe actively involved in food waste reduction initiatives. - Some of the partners have collaborated for the first time between themselves and are motivated to continue the successful collaboration in the future on the topic of food waste and other sustainability topics. The continuance of the collaboration will furthermore increase the impact of the project we have implemented together. 6. To reduce food waste in the participating communities within one year; - The participants of the youth exchange and follow-up events were familiarized with the topic of food waste and the connection to sustainability and economy, and were motivated to practice food waste habits. 7. To spread awareness about the Erasmus+ program, its available opportunities, and to generate fresh concepts for potential future projects; - We have spread awareness about the Erasmus+ Program on different levels. 1. During the youth exchange we have implemented a session about the Erasmus+ Program, and sharing the opportunities that the program provides, continued with story telling from the more experienced participants. The focus during this session was on KA1 Mobility of Young People, KA1 Mobility of Youth Workers, ESC, and Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs. 2. After the youth exchange during the follow-up events the participants have shared their experience about the Erasmus+ Program and have motivated more peers to participate in activities in the future. 8. To spread awareness of the YouthPass and to cultivate the skills that are outlined in it; - During the youth exchange the participants were introduced to the YouthPass certificate, not only as a recognition of participation but also as a tool for reflection and self-evaluation. Through the ‘YouthPass Island’ workshop participants had the opportunity to complete various tasks to better understand the competencies described in the YouthPass and to realize how they are developing them during the sessions. 9. To organize follow-up activities and have an impact on communities both locally and internationally; - All the participating organizations and participants have shared the knowledge and experience they gained during the youth exchange in follow-up events in their local communities designed during the youth exchange
