Objectives

The G.L.A.S.S. project, an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange initiative, successfully raised awareness about sustainability through artistic expression, particularly glass recycling. Over ten months, 28 young participants from Romania, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and Estonia engaged in various activities that combined creativity with eco-friendly practices. The project provided an opportunity for young people to explore the intersection of art and environmental responsibility while developing valuable skills through non-formal education. Objectives and Achievements The project aimed to: 1. Develop a proactive, eco-conscious mindset among participants. 2. Educate young people on the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and sustainable daily habits. 3. Provide a platform for integrating sustainability into artistic and everyday practices. Throughout the project, these goals were successfully met. Participants demonstrated an increased awareness of environmental issues and incorporated sustainable habits into their routines. They also developed new skills in glass recycling, creative expression, and teamwork. Activities and Participants The Youth Exchange was implemented through the collaboration of four organizations: Asociația For the Joy of It (Romania), Mindful.nest CZ (Czech Republic), Youth Association of Terceira Island (Portugal), and MTU JazzON (Estonia). Each organization sent six participants and one group leader, forming a diverse group of motivated young individuals. Key activities included: Glass recycling workshops: Participants learned to transform recycled glass into artistic creations. Sustainability discussions: Group sessions explored eco-friendly habits, environmental policies, and sustainable lifestyles. Portfolio creation: A collection of digital and physical works showcased the participants' artistic progress and sustainable practices. Social media engagement: An Instagram page was created to document and share the project’s outcomes. Final exhibition: A showcase of the artworks produced during the project, highlighting the connection between art and sustainability. The project successfully combined hands-on artistic activities with educational discussions, fostering an engaging and impactful learning experience. Results and Impact By the conclusion of the project, G.L.A.S.S. had achieved significant outcomes: 1. An active social media presence—The project’s Instagram page attracted a wide audience, increasing awareness of sustainable art practices. 2. A comprehensive portfolio—Documenting participants' work, learning experiences, and project activities, serving as a resource for future initiatives. 3. A collection of unique glass artworks—Created from recycled materials, these pieces demonstrated the practical application of sustainability in art. The impact extended beyond the immediate participants: Many young people reported adopting more sustainable habits in their daily lives. Participants shared their experiences within their communities, inspiring others to engage in eco-friendly practices. The project strengthened collaboration between partner organizations, enhancing their ability to implement future Erasmus+ initiatives. Long-term Effects and Sustainability At the local level, G.L.A.S.S. increased community awareness about sustainability through art. Several participants continued working on related initiatives, such as organizing workshops or promoting sustainable practices in their networks. At a national and European level, the project contributed to a growing movement of youth-led sustainability initiatives, demonstrating how artistic expression can serve as a powerful tool for environmental education. The experience also provided valuable knowledge for partner organizations, enabling them to further integrate sustainability into their future projects. Overall, G.L.A.S.S. successfully demonstrated that sustainability and creativity can go hand in hand. The project left a lasting impact on participants and communities, showing that small artistic actions can lead to meaningful environmental change.
