Objectives

The 'Even Mind vol.2' activity was designed to promote equanimity and resilience among participants through the practice of mindfulness and creative expression. Implemented as part of a youth workers mobility program, the project drew inspiration from the concept of 'evenness,' emphasizing inner strength and mindfulness amid life's uncertainties. At the same time, this is the second edition of our project, held last year in Latvia, but this year it took place in Romania, that added up to the cultural context and exploration of nature too. In general, we aimed to improve the majority of things, but at the same time continue with the same message and topic. Here are the key objectives of this training: The primary objective was to address significant mental health and wellbeing concerns among young people, in line with European Youth Goals. The project highlighted the importance of mindfulness as a tool and way of living for enhancing mental health, providing substantial physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Participants reported improved mental wellbeing and a greater awareness of the importance of maintaining mental health. Another goal was to introduce mindfulness practices to youth workers and educators using diverse tools, making these practices accessible and applicable to younger generations in Western culture. The activity successfully conveyed that mindfulness is more than a relaxation technique; it is a way of being in a wise relationship with one's inner and outer experiences. Participants embraced mindfulness techniques and expressed a desire to integrate these practices into their personal and professional lives. The project aimed to provide solutions to common issues faced by Generation Z, such as shorter attention spans, technology dependency, anxiety, and stress. Mindfulness practices, including meditation and observation, were utilized to improve concentration, productivity, and overall well being. Feedback indicated that participants experienced reduced stress, enhanced focus, and recalled their value of life, affirming the effectiveness of mindfulness in addressing these challenges. Enhancing communication, empathy, and active listening skills among participants was a key objective. Sessions focused on life values, goals, emotions, and feelings. Participants reported better interpersonal relationships and a deeper understanding of effective communication and empathy, which are crucial skills for educators and youth workers. Promoting eco-conscious behaviors and a deeper connection to nature through mindfulness practices was another goal. Activities conducted in natural settings aimed to strengthen the connection between body, mind, and the environment. Participants engaged in art, poetry, and observation exercises, leading to a heightened sense of environmental awareness and appreciation. The project addressed the need for cultural adaptation of mindfulness, originally from Eastern traditions, when applied in the West. Sessions included discussions on Eastern philosophy and Western theories, helping participants understand and appropriately apply mindfulness across different cultures. This cultural bridging was well-received, enhancing participants' ability to incorporate mindfulness into diverse cultural contexts. The project aimed to equip participants with skills in psychological support for young people. Training sessions provided practical skills and methodologies, which were compiled into a digital booklet. This booklet collated methodologies from the 'Even Mind in 2024 and a short summary in 2023, serving as a comprehensive educational resource for future use.
