Objectives

The training course “New Age Youth Work: Promoting Tolerance through Video-Based Methods” took place in Bucharest, and was based on the collaboration of 4 partner organizations - AEA (Romania), Onde (Italy), Euromuevete (Spain) and NECI (North Macedonia). Through this project we aimed to develop the skills of our youth workers in using film as a tool to promote tolerance and stop discrimination among young people. Our experience has taught us that young people engage on a deeper level and are more likely to participate when we give them the chance to get involved, speaking their language. Using mobile phones and applications, creating and uploading videos on social networks has become the preferred way for young people to express themselves, share and learn about the world. Therefore, we saw great potential in introducing video making in combination with non-formal education methods that promote tolerance. The objectives we set out to achieve were: 1. To help youth workers improve their media literacy, acquiring practical knowledge and skills on how to use a camera, to create and edit quality videos. 2. To teach youth workers to successfully implement at least 5 methods that combine filmmaking and non-formal education techniques that will help them engage young people on anti-discrimination and tolerance topics. 3. To develop self-confidence and motivate participants to use innovative video-based methods in their practice. In addition, to implement them with a minimum of 30 young people in each community in the 6 months after the mobility.
