Objectives

The project "Creative Youth Workers' Network for Inclusion" was created to respond to the needs identified in a participatory consultation process carried out among youth workers from the 10 partner organizations. Our project started from the belief that creative methods play an extremely important role in non-formal education, as they facilitate the involvement of young people and increase the attractiveness and relevance of the educational process for them, a fact also confirmed by our partners from their experience. This observation is also supported by authors like Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, who in his book ‘Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention’ describes how creativity leads to the state of flow, in which young people are completely involved, focused, and motivated in the educational activity, which favors better learning. In the preparation stage of the project, we organized focus groups, in which a total of 53 youth workers from the partner organizations participated. At that time, we had chosen this method to obtain qualitative data directly from the youth workers who were to benefit directly by participating in this project. The initial needs of the youth workers identified through the focus group: -42 out of 53 felt the lack of innovative, creative methods that would have a greater impact in working with young people with fewer opportunities from their communities. -53/53 stated that by using creative methods, young people would be more motivated to participate in activities and therefore would be able to develop personal and professional competences more effectively -42 out of 53 felt the lack of professional competences to use efficient, innovative, creative methods in working with young people -45 out of 53 felt the lack of access to a support group, where they could exchange good practices and experiences with other youth workers active in the field of working with young people with fewer opportunities -27 out of 53 youth workers considered that they had fewer opportunities (coming from rural, industrial, geographically isolated areas, being the sole providers for their families). These felt the lack of opportunities for professional growth in the field of youth work. The effects of these shortages of the youth workers were felt at the level of the young people from the partner communities, as they had limited access to educational and personal development opportunities. The young people felt alone, misunderstood, and unsupported, which led to decreased motivation to be active in their communities, to marginalization, school dropout, addictions. The effects were also felt at the level of the youth workers, who often felt unable to provide effective solutions and to develop professional competences in working with young people. The central aim of the project Creative Youth Workers' Network for Inclusion was to respond to these needs, to create a context in which youth workers can learn new creative and innovative methods in working with vulnerable youth; to form a sustainable network, with its own name, vision, common objectives that supports them and where they can find ideas, approaches, and partners both for local, national, and international projects; to develop their professional competences to address the needs of young people, to develop innovative and creative programs that motivate and support them in their personal and professional development. The SMART objectives of the project: O1: The creation and consolidation of an international network, based on non-formal, creative methods and a common strategy in the 10 partner NGOs, which will serve as support and inspiration for 40 youth workers, who will develop local, national, and international projects, in a sustainable way by 2027. O2: During 14 months, the development of professional competences among 40 youth workers (of which 20 with fewer opportunities) from the partner NGOs, aged between 18–35, to use artistic, attractive methods in order to have a greater impact and to motivate more young people from local communities to participate in activity sessions. O3: The testing and selection of at least 10 of the most effective NFE, creative, innovative methods which will be stored in a digital Toolkit, which the 40 youth workers from the partner organizations will be able to integrate into their usual work with young people from their communities.
