As civil society organizations we receive reports on how socio-economic inequality is increasing, how young people's mental health is deteriorating and how gang crime and drug dealing are extending further and further down the ages. But we also see how thousands of children and young people every day come to YMCA's operations and local associations around Sweden and Kosovo and offer an alternative path. By offering places on this exchange to young leaders who work in or want to work in socio-economically vulnerable areas, we want to strengthen their work, their leadership experiences and also work to develop methods by sharing and together creating better activities for the children and young people who come to the YMCA. We have identified a need among our members to increase the knowledge about the YMCA-YWCA movement on an international level. Through the project, we want to create a platform and a contact point for young people from Sweden and Kosovo to share experiences and encourage exchanges to strengthen the sense of participation both in the European union as well as within the YMCA-YWCA movement. The aim is to connect to European concepts and values as well as to help young leaders acquire and develop competences for life and their professional future through leadership competences, anti-discriminatory work, and methods. The youth workers who will take part in the exchange must have some previous leadership experience within the YMCA-movement and will eighter currently be working in a socioeconomically challenging setting or have the ambition to do so in the future. We thus want to bring together those who have experience in these settings, as well as those who have an ambition to do so – therefore creating an environment which is optimal for youth-led development and non-formal learning. We want to bring youth workers from YWCA-YMCA of Sweden and YMCA Kosovo, who work with the same target group and in similar ways, but in different contexts together. This to foster understanding of the importance of local context, but also to awaken understanding for how we work for the same thing with different methods and the value in learning from each other rather than inventing new methods and ways of working on challenges or problems that someone else already has the answer to.
