The LGBT+ Incubator / Youth and the Future of the LGBT+ Community project was conceived in response to the need for greater inclusion, empowerment, and cultural visibility of young people within the LGBT+ community in Slovenia. On the 40th anniversary of organized LGBT+ activism in Slovenia, we wanted to create a space where the past meets the future—through the eyes of young people who are today co-creating new stories, identities, and forms of struggle for equality. The main goal of the project was to establish a cultural and educational incubator that enables young LGBT+ people to explore their own identities, express themselves through art, and connect within the community. At a time of growing social polarization, hate speech, and political uncertainty, the project provided a safe environment for reflection, creativity, and self-confidence building. The project included a series of activities designed to enable young people to actively participate, acquire new knowledge and experiences, and create content that contributes to greater visibility of the LGBT+ community. Key activities included workshops, training sessions, queer art and culture, and community building, focusing on LGBT+ issues, gender identity, the history of the movement, and personal experiences. Participants had the opportunity to participate in the preparation of exhibitions, public events, and other activities that were presented to the wider public. Special emphasis was placed on intergenerational dialogue. Meetings with activists who helped shape the movement in the 1980s and 1990s gave young people an insight into the history of the struggle for LGBT+ rights and an understanding of how the movement has developed over time. This exchange of experiences strengthened the sense of belonging and continuity within the community. The project also contributed to raising awareness among the general public. Through public events, exhibitions, and media publications, we sought to break down stereotypes, promote acceptance of diversity, and draw attention to the challenges that LGBT+ youth still face. Involving young people in the creative and decision-making processes was key to achieving sustainable effects—not only within the project, but also in the broader social context. The project's results include increased self-confidence and skills among participants, greater cohesion within the LGBT+ community, and the creation of high-quality cultural and artistic content that will serve as a tool for further work and activism. The project has shown that young people have enormous potential to bring about change if we offer them space, support, and opportunities for expression. The project successfully achieved its goals by creating a space for growth, connection, and expression for young LGBT+ people and contributing to greater visibility, acceptance, and understanding of diversity in Slovenian society. At the same time, it laid the foundations for further work that will continue to build bridges between generations, communities, and ideas.
