The Healthy Youngs project (HEY) is aimed at addressing a growing issue among young people—unhealthy eating habits and their harmful consequences on both personal health and the environment. Our primary goal is to engage 30 young individuals from five different countries in a youth exchange that will promote awareness about the importance of adopting healthier dietary practices. By encouraging young people to explore new ways of healthy living and diet, the project intends to show that healthy eating is not just a personal choice but also a matter of global environmental significance. The first objective of the project is to shed light on the problem of unhealthy eating habits, particularly the excessive consumption of processed foods, sugary drinks, and animal-based products. Obesity is a major issue worldwide, and in Türkiye, it has become a serious concern with an increasing number of young people suffering from weight-related health problems. Through this project, we aim to raise awareness among young participants about the negative effects of poor diet choices, including the increased risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other long-term health complications. By highlighting the connection between poor dietary choices and obesity, the project seeks to empower young people to make better food choices and adopt a more health-conscious lifestyle. Another key objective is to emphasize the environmental impact of excessive meat consumption. The production of animal-based foods contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and the depletion of natural resources. By encouraging a vegetable-based lifestyle, the project aims to foster a deeper understanding of how personal dietary choices can affect the planet. Participants will learn that reducing meat and dairy consumption can play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and promoting sustainability. A third objective of the project is to introduce young people to the diversity of healthy food options available across different cultures. Each of the five participating countries has its own rich culinary traditions, and this project will enable participants to exchange ideas and experiences about healthy cooking practices. Through interactive cooking sessions and recipe exchanges, participants will explore healthier versions of their traditional foods, learning to incorporate local, nutritious ingredients into their diets. The hands-on activities, such as cooking and sharing meals, will make the learning process engaging and practical, allowing young people to experience firsthand the benefits of healthy eating. In summary, the HEY project is designed to increase awareness about the relationship between diet, health, and environmental sustainability. We hope to inspire young people to take control of their health by adopting healthier food choices while simultaneously reducing their ecological footprint. The project not only aims to improve individual well-being but also strives to promote global environmental stewardship through collective action.
