Objectives

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 50 million people worldwide are affected by dementia, which affects mental performance, and that this figure will rise to 152 million by 2050. Dementia is a syndrome that is generally chronic or progressive - with a deterioration in cognitive function (ie, ability to process thought) beyond what is expected from normal aging. It affects memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, calculation, learning capacity, language and judgment. Consciousness is not affected. Cognitive dysfunction is sometimes accompanied by impairment in emotional control, social behaviour or motivation. Dementia is caused by various diseases and injuries that affect the brain primary or secondary, such as Alzheimer's disease or stroke. Dementia and Alzheimer are one of the main causes of disability and dependence among elderly people in the world. These diseases have a physical, psychological, social and economic impact not only on people with illness, but also on their caretakers, their families and the general population. Alzheimer's is seen in 2 to 4 percent of the over 65 age group and 20 percent in the over 85 age group. According to the latest data from WHO, the cost of dementia to the world economy is $ 818 billion. WHO says: “If dementia was a country, it would be the world's 18th largest economy.” Aging is a combination of advancing age and changes in cells, tissues, organs and systems that are not reversible. The most important symptom is a significant slowdown in all body functions. Individuals over 65 years old are considered to be elderly. Healthy aging is to be independent and self-sufficient in our old age, to feel good socially and psychologically.
