Objectives

The Secret of the Note project is a youth exchange project that was implemented to ensure that young people develop both individually and culturally through music. Our starting point when designing this project was that we believed that music theory is a tool that not only professional musicians but also every young person can understand and use. The main priorities of the Erasmus+ program, such as supporting cultural diversity, encouraging creative expression methods and creating inclusive learning environments, have been guiding us. In this context, our project is particularly in line with focus areas such as “Cultural heritage”, “participation in democratic life” and “creativity, arts and culture”. Our aim was to redefine the relationship of young people between the ages of 18-30 with music and to include them in the process not only as listeners but also as productive individuals. Music theory offers a whole that affects young people’s ways of thinking and develops their analytical skills through basic elements such as notes, rhythm, meter and harmony. We used this structure as a basis for the participants to both increase their individual awareness and express their cultural identities. We wanted to approach music not only as technical knowledge but also as a carrier of emotions, stories and social messages. Our project included workshops, group works and performances based on non-formal learning where participants could be involved in joint production processes where both our participants actively participated and individually. With these activities, we aimed to enable young people to interact with their peers from different countries, to produce together and to approach the same theme from different perspectives. We observed that young people gained self-confidence, developed their social skills and increased their awareness of cultural diversity thanks to these creativity-based production processes. In addition, we offered participants the opportunity to experience different forms of expression with modern tools such as storytelling with music, music production with artificial intelligence, short film works and creative activism. We also opened up discussions on the impact of digital transformation on artistic production, especially with innovative applications such as "AI: The New Bandmate". This was an important achievement that served Erasmus' "digital transformation" priority. Our project aimed not only to develop the musical talents of young people through the technical and theoretical knowledge taught, but also to prove to participants from different nations that music plays a leading role in creating intercultural dialogue. Our group of 40 participants from 5 countries experienced the unifying power of music not only through project activities but also through social interaction and city tours. The fact that our participants were able to express social issues through art with an active citizenship consciousness, and that young people made the problems in their own societies visible through performing arts, as in the "Creative Activism" session, created an environment of sharing that was both original and effective. This directly supported the democratic participation and freedom of expression values that Erasmus+ values.
