Objectives

Our aim in implementing this project was to increase young people’s motivation to participate in the future of Europe and neighboring regions, to strengthen youth workers’ knowledge and awareness on issues such as democratic participation, intercultural dialogue and sustainability, and through them to increase young people’s democratic participation and awareness to a wider audience. As part of the project, young people and youth workers from Ukraine, Slovakia, Jordan, Belgium and Türkiye came together to exchange ideas on the future of Europe and to increase their knowledge on the subject. Before the event, participants conducted surveys to measure the views of young people in their own countries on European values and the future of Europe. The survey results were presented during the project events in Ankara and similarities and differences between the countries were discussed. To help participants discover the host city and encourage teamwork, we organized an “Ankara Treasure Hunt” event where groups explored important places and completed tasks while learning about the city’s history and culture. A board was created where participants anonymously expressed their expectations and fears, and then the house rules were determined together. While icebreaker activities provided bonding, team building activities encouraged collaboration by creating a holistic group dynamic. The posters that the groups continued in turns encouraged creativity and achieved a large group work. The problems of Europe were determined with the 6 thinking hats technique, and after a general discussion, the groups were given different topics and asked to make detailed analyses and presentations. In order to develop the leadership skills of the young people and learn their perspectives, the “Europe Newspaper in 2050” workshop was organized where the young participants designed creative newspapers imagining the situation of Europe in 2050. The participants had the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas on topics such as the Conference on the Future of Europe, the perspective and policies of Europe, and the obstacles, pros and cons, policies of different countries, etc. The participants wrote creative scenarios about the current situation and future of Europe and shot short videos. During the project, the participants were also introduced to Erasmus+ opportunities and the Youthpass certificate system. In addition, a visit was organized to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) accompanied by a representative of the Parliamentary Advisors Association (PDD) in order to inform the participants about the democratic perspective and parliamentary culture of our country. This visit allowed the comparison of practices in Türkiye with practices in other countries, and the project was also introduced here. In order to increase cultural interaction and awareness, cultural nights were organized every evening where countries shared their traditional dances, music and food with cultural presentations. In addition, informative sessions were organized on the European Green Deal, European Youth Goals and European Environmental Performance Index (EPI). The participants' awareness of reducing climate change, the importance of democratic participation and digital literacy increased. A digital project output was created with the ideas and studies obtained during the project. Participants were asked about their thoughts on the project and evaluation videos were shot. The visibility of the project was increased with social media sharing and visibility studies. The Youthpass certificate ceremony was held with games. Finally, general evaluations and comments on the project were received and the closing was made.
