Objectives

Our primary goal is to empower youth workers and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to enhance disaster resilience within their communities. We aim to create a cadre of youth leaders who are prepared for disasters and capable of mobilizing and training other young individuals in their regions. Ultimately, we seek to foster a sense of responsibility and agency among young people to actively contribute to building resilient communities. Project Objectives: The objectives of our project, "Youth Responders: Building Resilience in the Face of Disasters," are as follows: a. Capacity Building: To develop the capacity of youth workers in disaster preparedness, risk assessment, and effective emergency response practices. This includes practical skills such as first response tactics and psychological first aid. b. Knowledge Transfer: To facilitate the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and case studies among youth workers from diverse regions with varying levels of disaster experience. This sharing of experiences will enrich their understanding of disaster management. c. Community Mobilization: To provide participants with the tools and techniques to actively engage and train young individuals and communities in disaster preparedness and response. This includes strategies for effective communication and engagement. d. Networking and Collaboration: To foster lasting relationships and networks between youth organizations and workers from different countries. By promoting cross-border collaboration, we aim to enhance future disaster response coordination. e. Youth Empowerment: To promote the role of youth as essential agents in community resilience and emergency preparedness. We want to instill a sense of empowerment and leadership among young participants, enabling them to take proactive roles in their communities. Youth Work Practice Perspective: From the perspective of youth work practice, our project seeks to achieve the following: Empowerment: We aim to empower youth workers with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to engage effectively in disaster management efforts. This empowerment extends to their ability to empower other young individuals within their communities. Peer-to-Peer Training: By training youth workers as peer educators, we enable them to implement youth-focused disaster preparedness programs. This approach aligns with youth work practice, which often involves peer education and support. Community Engagement: Youth work emphasizes community engagement and mobilization. Our project equips participants with tools and strategies to engage communities, making it a relevant and practical extension of youth work practice. Youth Leadership: We encourage youth workers to become leaders in community disaster resilience. This aligns with the principles of youth work, which emphasize leadership development and youth-led initiatives. Networking: Our project promotes networking, collaboration, and partnership-building among youth workers and organizations. This collaborative aspect is essential in youth work practice, where cooperation and networking enhance the impact of youth-oriented initiatives. Overall, our project's objectives align closely with the principles and practices of youth work. We aim to harness the potential of youth workers to create a positive impact on disaster resilience, not only during the project's duration but also in their ongoing youth work activities.
