The main goal of this project was to help young people develop active citizenship awareness, increase their participation in democratic processes, and become more sensitive to social issues. In line with the EU Youth Strategy’s “Space and Participation for All” objective, we aimed to create an Active Citizenship Guide and a training curriculum that encourage youth involvement in decision-making. Through these resources, we intended to strengthen young people’s civic skills and support youth workers in delivering effective training in this field.
In today’s world, the sustainability of democratic societies requires continuous and effective civic engagement that goes beyond simply voting during elections. However, many studies show that young people often have low levels of participation in decision-making processes and lack sufficient awareness and skills related to active citizenship. In this context, there is a growing need for high-quality resources that can help young people acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become active participants in social and democratic life. One major gap identified was the lack of a practical and user-friendly Active Citizenship Guide that youth workers can use when working with young people. As BİLİMDER, we launched the project “Active Citizenship Guide for Youth” to address these needs. Through this initiative, we aimed both to strengthen young people’s awareness of democratic participation and to provide youth workers with a practical curriculum and guide that would foster an effective, inclusive, and sustainable learning process.
