Objectives

We successfully organized and implemented a game development camp that significantly strengthened young participants' skills in game development, Youthpass competences, green skills, entrepreneurship, and social interaction. As a result, we enhanced their employability and supported their personal and professional growth. The camp also fostered meaningful collaboration among partner organizations, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and joint capacity building. Moreover, it contributed to the overall improvement of youth work by offering a dynamic and inclusive ecosystem where participants were able to transform their creative ideas into tangible outcomes and engage in peer learning within a supportive community. In addition to hands-on training and mentorship, participants had the opportunity to work in diverse teams, develop prototypes, and showcase their projects, which increased their confidence and readiness for future careers in the creative and digital industries. The initiative also promoted intercultural dialogue, sustainability, and innovation-driven thinking among youth.

Background

The project was initiated to address critical gaps in the Balkan game development ecosystem and to respond to the increasing importance of creative industries in global economies. Creative sectors generate nearly 7% of global economic revenue and are vital components of knowledge-based, post-industrial societies. Among these, the gaming industry represents the largest market within digital media. Despite this potential, countries like North Macedonia and Serbia face challenges in accessing quality education, practical training, and international exposure in this sector. North Macedonia and Serbia are emerging as digital and gaming hubs but still require capacity development, institutional partnerships, and access to international digital initiatives. The project created opportunities for both newcomers and professionals in the gaming industry to develop their technical and entrepreneurial capabilities. It also promoted non-formal and intercultural learning, multilingualism, and European citizenship. Key activities included the organization of a Balkan Game Camp and the development of a comprehensive toolkit that made publicly available and two gaming prototypes were developed by participants.
