Our project idea have started in volunteers meeting in Blue Whale Education Center in Tauchen where young people involved into discussion and sharing about hate speech and hate crimes which is concerning. Since the European Commission responded by putting policies in place to encourage diversity and fight prejudice, we decided to carry out this project through film making as a tool. Young members, including those from immigrant and refugee backgrounds, said they felt excluded because of stereotypes and prejudices during a volunteer meeting. In order to counter hate speech and dispel unfavorable stereotypes about other cultures, they suggested using filmmaking as a tool. As a result, the "Youth Gate to Prevent Hate" project idea was established with the goal of promoting tolerance and increasing awareness both online and offline. We have designed our project with two mobility events in Austria and Turkey addressed issues of hate speech, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism while promoting cultural exchange and understanding among participants. Providing participants with filmmaking equipment, improving media literacy, and advocating for human rights and tolerance were among the goals. The goal of the program was to enable youth to participate in non-formal learning opportunities like the Erasmus+ program, fight prejudice, and support cultural diversity. Following the initial idea, our project activities — including preparation meetings held both online and offline, two mobility events, follow-up activities, and dissemination campaigns — successfully resulted in a wide range of workshops addressing the topic of hate speech and discrimination. These workshops not only raised awareness but also enhanced participants’ skills in film-making. As a concrete outcome, participants produced several short films that conveyed powerful messages promoting tolerance, cultural diversity, and human rights, which were later shared with local communities and online audiences to amplify the project’s impact.
