The main objective of the project was to empower students aged 14-17 to critically reflect on current tourism practices and actively contribute to shaping more sustainable forms of travel in the future. Students were encouraged to analyse the environmental, social and cultural impacts of tourism and to develop realistic future scenarios for the year 2035. In addition, the project aimed to strengthen key competences such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, digital skills and intercultural understanding. Another objective was to foster European values and active citizenship by enabling students to collaborate across borders and engage with stakeholders from different sectors, including the SME partner beSonder, which brought in entrepreneurial perspectives and practical insights from the business world. For teachers and institutions, the project aimed to develop innovative, transferable teaching methods and materials that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application and stakeholder involvement. The cooperation with beSonder further aimed to strengthen the link between education and entrepreneurship, ensuring that learning outcomes are closely aligned with real-world challenges and labour market needs.
The project “How will I travel in 2035?” was initiated in response to the growing need to address the environmental, social and economic challenges of tourism, particularly in the context of climate change and mass tourism. Many young people are directly affected by these developments but often lack opportunities to actively engage with such complex topics in a practical and empowering way. At the same time, teachers face difficulties in conveying sustainability, European values and future-oriented thinking in an engaging manner. The project addressed these needs by creating a structured, practice-oriented learning environment in which students could critically analyse current travel behaviours and develop their own visions for the future. It also aimed to strengthen cooperation between schools, connect education with real-world stakeholders and actively integrate the SME partner beSonder, bringing in entrepreneurial thinking and practical expertise. This ensured a strong link between education and the business world, making learning more relevant, application-oriented & aligned with real-life challenges. At the same time, the project provided innovative teaching methods that can be sustainably integrated into classroom practice.
