The project aimed to gain insight into methods for better reaching diverse and vulnerable target groups and responding to their needs, to involve citizens more actively in library operations, and to strengthen digital transformation and inclusion. We sought to achieve this through working visits to four leading European libraries, with a group of 14 staff members from various teams, and by inviting an expert to speak to the entire staff of 100 employees.
Library De Krook, the municipal public library of Ghent, operates in a context of increasing diversity and digitalisation, where its existing services do not sufficiently meet the needs of all target groups. The project “Library De Krook for and with the citizens of Ghent” is set up to develop new methodologies in participation, inclusion and digital services through international inspiration and staff professionalisation, and to sustainably embed these within the organisation.
