Bridging intercultural, intergenerational and social divideDisabilitiesInclusion of marginalised young people

Objectives

The primary goal of this project was to challenge harmful stereotypes that reinforce discrimination and limit the potential of individuals with disabilities. Through this youth exchange initiative, we brought together young people aged 13 to 17, with fewer opportunities, to foster mutual understanding and interaction. This approach successfully dismantled barriers and dispelled misconceptions surrounding disabilities. The project utilized a variety of non-formal learning methods, such as interactive briefings, team-building activities, workshops, and role-playing exercises. These activities created opportunities for shared learning and cultivated mutual respect among participants. Additionally, the initiative emphasized intercultural dialogue by collaborating with organizations from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. This approach promoted inclusivity and bridged societal divides. To support participants in reflecting on their experiences and identifying learning outcomes, the project integrated the YouthPass framework. Through structured reflection sessions, participants engaged in personal and group-based evaluations of their growth. This process strengthened self-awareness and enabled participants to recognize and articulate the skills and competencies they had developed, enhancing their overall learning experience. As part of the exchange, participants visited various locations, including the the KAS Eupen stadium, the ZFP Eupen integration school, the cities of Eupen and Aachen, a hike through the High Fens. These visits provided a platform to encourage understanding and respect between young people with and without disabilities. Furthermore, the project empowered participants to share their experiences and insights, contributing to greater societal awareness and understanding of disabilities.
