With the war in Palestine, the conflict in Ukraine, and concerns following the right-wing victory in elections. There is a prevailing sense of unease, some even experience a sense of powerless anger. The atmosphere is not great for personal development and mental well-being. This is one of the main needs that we aim to address within this project. Additionally, there is polarization, an "us versus them" mentality among some young people. The perception is created that we are opposed to each other, each convinced of their own rightness, sometimes so strongly that we no longer listen to the other side. Little room is left for nuance, as individuals are caught in an emotional process. It is easy to succumb to this "us versus them" thinking, sometimes without even realizing it, leading to social unrest, another need we encountered in recent months. Thus, our focus within this application is on addressing unwanted polarization because polarization can also be productive. From our organizations, we had been grappling with these needs for some time, engaging in extensive discussions about what we could do. These discussions led to this project where, from Ghent and Amsterdam, we aim to bring together 16 young people for a 5-day exchange in Oudenaarde at Moerashuis. The exchange will focus on resilience, human rights, anti-racism education, and transitioning from polarization to connection. Participants will learn to listen, communicate inclusively, observe, think critically, and be provided with tools to prevent irritations from escalating into tensions and incidents. These 5 days will include content-rich workshops, activities, and adventurous outdoor pursuits. This effort is accompanied by a robust preparation and follow-up phase involving online webinars and preparatory sessions. We will also create a hardcover journal containing various tips and exercises. We aim to share our experience with the youth sector in both countries by creating a video summary of our experience along with a PDF guide outlining the methodologies. Together with the journal, these resources will be shared with the sector. Our project objectives are as follows: Provide young people with space to release steam and foster connections. Offer young people the opportunity to explore the themes of human rights, anti-racism education, and depolarization. Provide insights into the different roles in polarization. Equip young people with tools on how to depolarize. Foster learning in connection. Give young people insight into the opportunities available to them within the world of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps. Compile our experience into a video summary and a PDF guide with the methodologies we used. Create a journal (hardcover) with poems, Spotify playlists (QR code), links to educational resources, assignments, reading materials, etc. These, along with the video summary and PDF guide, will be shared with the sector. Above all, organize a top-notch, adventurous, and educational exchange.
