Objectives

In today's rapidly evolving society, young individuals are in dire need of role models and mentors who can inspire them and guide them through the complexities of identity formation and societal engagement. Youth organizations, particularly those like YFU, play a pivotal role in providing such mentorship by recruiting and engaging volunteers who can lead by example and contribute positively to society. However, a recurring challenge is the retention and engagement of these volunteers, many of whom, despite their initial enthusiasm, become disengaged due to a lack of strong leadership and mentorship. Recognizing this, YFU places a high priority on cultivating robust leadership and mentorship skills among our seasoned volunteers. By empowering them to guide and inspire the next generation, we not only enhance their personal growth but also ensure a sustained impact on the youth we serve. Moreover, in the contemporary professional landscape, skills such as session facilitation, public speaking, and team leadership are invaluable. We aim to equip our young volunteers with these competencies through practical, hands-on experiences that transcend the limitations of theoretical learning. This approach not only prepares them for future career challenges but also fosters a productive and collaborative atmosphere. In addition to leadershipn mentoring and communication skills, YFU is dedicated to promoting cross-cultural understanding and global unity. Our comprehensive intercultural education and active citizenship trainings, delivered by experienced youth workers, aim to bridge cultural divides and encourage inclusivity. Yet, there is a pressing need to deepen our volunteers' understanding of complex intercultural issues, such as reverse cultural shock and reintegration challenges, to truly prepare them for global citizenship. To address these multifaceted needs, we propose the Mentor 2.0 training course, a blended learning initiative designed to refine the mentorship and facilitation skills of our experienced volunteers and deepen their intercultural competencies. The course will commence with an e-learning module in April 2024, laying the theoretical groundwork. This will be followed by an immersive in-person training in Werbellinsee, Germany, from June 23-27, 2025, featuring interactive sessions and practical exercises to consolidate learning and provide opportunities for real-world application. Participants will then return to their local YFU chapters to implement their newfound knowledge, serving as mentors and role models for young volunteers. Our goal is to involve 40 young educators, aged 18-30, who are already active in facilitation, teaching, and training roles. By enhancing their skills and knowledge, we aim to empower them to significantly influence and shape future generations, thereby contributing to the overarching goals of the Erasmus+ program. This project is driven by the urgent need to equip young leaders with the tools to navigate and influence a complex world, fostering a more inclusive, understanding, and collaborative global community. PROJECT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES This project seeks to guide and empower a group of young educators, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge to thrive in a dynamic, interconnected world. By fostering their development in mentorship, leadership, and advanced intercultural education, the initiative aims to build resilient local teams capable of leading transformative activities. These activities will not only advance intercultural understanding and leadership among youth but also champion youth advocacy. Through sustained engagement in these enriched youth work and volunteering opportunities, the project aspires to cultivate a spirit of active citizenship across Europe, inspiring young individuals to become lifelong advocates for positive change. Objectives: Deepen Understanding of Key Concepts: Enhance the comprehension and application of mentorship, leadership, and advanced intercultural education principles among young people, aligning with the complexities of global society. Skill Development in Non-Formal Education: Bolster the capabilities of young educators in crafting and executing non-formal educational activities, grounded in the OECD PISA Global Competence Framework, to foster global competencies among youth. Mentorship and Multiplication: Create avenues for proactive and dedicated youth workers to serve as mentors and multipliers, enriching the mentorship ecosystem by transferring their enriched knowledge and skills to the younger generation, thereby fostering a continuous cycle of learning and empowerment. Fostering Inclusivity and Unity: Facilitate the construction of bridges across diverse generations, nationalities, and beliefs, contributing to a more harmonious, inclusive, and peaceful society by embracing and celebrating diversity.
