Objectives

With the project “About Neighborhood Walks and Elections,” we aimed to empower young people—especially those growing up in vulnerable contexts—to express their voices in the public debate. The J100 youth want to be heard, seen, and recognized as full-fledged conversation partners and citizens in the city of Antwerp. We strived to ensure that young people would dare to claim their space and speak out about the issues that matter to them. The objectives of this project were: - To create insight into the world of young people. On the one hand, by raising awareness, offering policymakers a broader perspective, and expanding their understanding. On the other hand, by letting young people tell their own stories, so their problems and needs become visible from their own perspective, experience, and lived reality. - To translate signals from young people into policy: The neighborhood walks served as an intervention tool to bring about gradual change at the local policy level. During the project, these objectives were further refined and expanded with the following ambitions: - To stimulate exchange between young people from different neighborhoods, with the goal of identifying shared concerns and successes - To strengthen the voice of young people in public debate - To develop and enhance the skills and competencies of young people - To inform young people about the elections, so they could make a well-informed decision about whether to vote or not to vote
