"ECOing" is an innovative project developed by young people and aimed at achieving a balance between environmental protection and economic progress in the local communities from which the young people come. The main focus of the project was the promotion of ecotourism as a sustainable model that harmonizes economic growth with environmental protection. The project presented ecotourism not only as a way to get to know nature and local cultures, but also as a means to ensure the sustainability and well-being of communities. With this project, we introduced the concept of responsible tourism to young people, especially those of them who come from areas with the opportunity for transition to a green economy and tourism development. The main goal of the project was to equip young people with knowledge and skills in the field of ecotourism and to introduce them to good examples of ecotourism in action. The specific objectives of the project were: 1. To improve the understanding of the importance of ecotourism among 42 European youth: through non-formal education, participants will be introduced to the principles and practices of ecotourism, highlighting its role in sustainable development and environmental protection 2. To develop intercultural and environmental skills for the future competence of the workforce, facilitating intercultural learning and exchanges between young people from different backgrounds, promoting a deeper understanding of the different environmental challenges and solutions across Europe. 3. To promote active citizenship and community engagement, by motivating participants to engage their local communities through ecotourism projects, enhancing their sense of European citizenship. 4. To encourage innovative and entrepreneurial thinking in the field of ecotourism among participants and to motivate them to develop innovative ideas through non-formal education methods. 5. Raising cultural and educational awareness and supporting young people in the process of understanding and experiencing different aspects of cultural heritage, as well as promoting the Erasmus program and the Youthpass certificate. The “Ecoing” project is inspired by the merger of “Eco” for ecology and “Booking” for tourism and represents a significant step towards empowering young people through youth exchange under the Erasmus program. The project increased knowledge and motivated young people to master the principles of sustainable and responsible tourism and provided them with practical skills and the opportunity to work and communicate in an intercultural environment. By promoting innovation, engaging communities and the ambition to build a joint network across Europe, “ECOing” fully responds to the main objectives and priorities of “Erasmus+”. The project has the ambition to lay the foundations for the creation of a new generation of environmentally aware and socially responsible citizens, ready to have a positive impact on achieving sustainable development and a balance between environmental protection and economic progress through the development and promotion of responsible tourism.
