Objectives

- Highlight issues surrounding romanticisation of mental health Romanticised portrayals of mental health often promote stereotypes and misinformation, which can hinder understanding and increase stigma. This may prevent people, particularly young individuals forming their understanding of mental health, from seeking help due to fear of losing their unique or creative identities. Additionally, social media's tendency to trivialise mental health struggles for likes or aesthetics can set unrealistic standards and pressures, worsening the issue for vulnerable groups. - Educate on aesthetics, mental health, and romanticization Art is a potent form of expression but can sometimes blur the lines between true representation and romanticization of mental health challenges. We aim to provide insights into navigating this fine line, ensuring that art serves as a genuine form of expression without trivialising or glamorising mental health struggles. - Encourage open Dialogue on creativity and mental Health One of our main goals is to encourage open conversations. We aim to create a space where people from various backgrounds can come together to share their thoughts and experiences. This will allow us to explore the complex connections between creativity, suffering, mental health, and artistic expression in depth. - Create a safe space for authentic expression In today's fast-paced and media-saturated environment, young people often struggle to discover and express their true selves. Our project aims to tackle this issue by providing a safe and supportive space where young individuals can openly share their thoughts and experiences. In this welcoming environment, they can connect with others who understand their struggles and begin to explore their own identities away from the pressures of society. - Address the concept of the sublime developed by Immanuel Kant. The interplay between imagination and reason. When confronted, our imagination struggles to comprehend it fully (in a lot of cases with mental health issues), but this very struggle engages our reason, which reflects on the limits of sensibility and the boundlessness of our own rational capacities. This process in a way affirms the superiority of our rational nature. This romanization often presents mental health struggles in an exaggerated, glorified manner, evoking awe and fascination, yet also fear, mirroring the sublime's impact. Such portrayals challenge our imagination but also prompt our reason to recognize the oversimplification and misrepresentation of mental health issues. This dynamic encourages us to critically reflect on our understanding and empathy towards mental health, pushing for a more informed and compassionate approach that respects the true complexities of these experiences. Ultimately, engaging with this romanticization through a sublime lens affirms the importance of rational thought, urging a shift towards more ethical and realistic perceptions of mental health. - Fight harmful stereotypes Our project is dedicated to challenging and correcting the misrepresentations and harmful stereotypes linked to mental health and artistic expression. We are committed to dismantling these damaging narratives. Our goal is to cultivate a more informed, compassionate, and detailed understanding of these important issues. - Enhance cultural understanding and empathy Understanding different cultures is key. Our project focuses on integrating a wide range of cultural backgrounds, helping participants understand how societal norms affect identity and mental health. Through this, we aim to foster empathy, understanding, and respect among diverse cultures. - Promote the benefits of the E+ programme The Erasmus+ Programme provides numerous opportunities for young people, but many are still not aware of what it has to offer. Our project is committed to changing this situation. By integrating our activities with E+, we plan to engage a wider audience, educating and motivating them about the significant advantages and possibilities available through the program. - Ensure Inclusivity Our mission is centred on inclusivity. We hold the conviction that everyone, no matter their background or situation, should have access to opportunities for personal growth and self-expression. Through our partnership with the Erasmus+ Programme, we are committed to making sure that individuals from less-privileged backgrounds have the chance to participate, gain advantages, and succeed. We acknowledge the instrumental role that youth workers play in shaping the future of younger generations. Youth work, with its roots in mentorship, guidance, and empowerment, is an essential lens through which our objectives are formulated. By aligning our goals with the best practices of youth work, we seek to enhance the effectiveness and reach of our initiative, ensuring that every young person can benefit from a tailored, empathetic, and empowering approach.
