We and our partners decided to carry out the project “Digital Youth in Exchange” in order to react to 3 CHALLENGES that we see in the current world and that we as youth workers need to react to: 1) Xenophobia: We see a lot of young people around us that are xenophobic and are not motivated to get to know and understand other cultures. In our organization, we are very concerned with the xenophobia against Ukrainian refugees, which live among us, and even more with antisemitism that has been growing in the past months. Young people turned out to be very vulnerable to these narratives, which we find very concerning. 2) Media literacy: This need is very much linked to no. 1). The internet is surrounding the youth with overload of information and they have to find their way navigating through fake news, manipulations, xenophobic and racist content, which they are confronted with every day. With two war conflicts near Europe, it is even more pressing these days to understand the mechanisms of manipulation, the functioning of information warfare and ways of checking information. 3) Digital transformation: More and more things in our societies are happening digitally - young people meet digitally, learn about the outside world through social media, vote for politicians that are funny in TicToc videos, etc. Being able to catch the attention of the online world has become almost crucial for achieving a positive change. If we want to empower youth to bring positive change into the groups of their peers, we should equip them with the ability to be visible online. The concrete objectives of the project are the following: 1. To work with the values of young people related to respect to diversity and other cultures, fighting against xenophobia and discrimination, breaking cultural stereotypes. 2. To give young people and youth workers the necessary skills to promote important topics in the online space and gain visibility for their work. 3. To create short movies carrying messages about intercultural learning and appreciation of diversity. To make these movies visible online as well as locally and raise awareness about these topics. 4. To share the movies with other youth workers and show how they can be used as an educational tool. 5. To promote the idea of inclusion and diversity by including participants with fewer opportunities in the project - especially people facing problems based on their cultural differences. 6. To exchange good practices between the participating organizations, learn from others’ experience and plan further cooperation in the future.
