Objectives

NESEHNUTÍ focuses on current topics and challenges that young people face and are interested in addressing, such as multicultural issues, civic engagement, human rights, animal rights, and environmental protection and climate. As part of international cooperation, we support local youth initiatives primarily in the South Caucasus and Ukraine, where we focus on monitoring the state of youth rights, and education, supporting civic engagement, conducting workshops, issuing informational materials, etc. Specifically in Georgia, NESEHNUTÍ launched a special program in 2011 to support initiatives in remote border regions with limited opportunities (Adjara, Samche-Javacheti, Kvemo-Kartli, and Kacheti), focusing on current issues such as violence against women and children, rights of ethnic minorities, participation, community development, animal rights, and illegal logging. These initiatives activate local youth in these topics and lead them to civic participation and dialogue with local politicians and officials, advocating for their rights and those of their fellow citizens, especially the human rights, right to a favorable environment, etc. Support for youth participation is in line with several priorities of the Erasmus+ program for 2021-2027, especially with the priorities of "Inclusion and Diversity" and "Participation." The project proposal is also in line with the priorities of the EU Youth Strategy, specifically with the priority to "encourage young people to become active citizens, bearers of solidarity, and actors of positive change, inspired by EU values and European identity, and equip them with the necessary resources in this regard." In terms of the specific goals of the Strategy, the project contributes mainly to the goals of "supporting an inclusive society" and "supporting youth in remote regions." The need for equal, full, and meaningful participation of young people in public life is also mentioned in the EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy. The involvement of Georgian participants, especially from remote border regions, is crucial for the success of our activities. These participants often represent ethnic minorities, and their initiatives play a significant role in the development of local communities and the building of civil society. Their activities have a direct impact on the functioning of these communities, but they often face a lack of training and financial resources for the implementation of their projects. The specific position of some individuals, such as women and LGBTQ+ people, increases their vulnerability due to geographical and social disadvantages. Their gender or sexual orientation often interacts with ethnic affiliation and other factors, which can worsen their situation. The project will provide youth workers and their organizations with valuable experience, skills, and inspiration that can bring long-term benefits to youth work and youth development. Participants will gain new skills and knowledge in youth work and activism, including facilitation, communication, intercultural understanding, strategic planning, and project management. Furthermore, participation in the project will allow participants to establish contacts with people from different countries and organizations dealing with similar topics, which can be useful for sharing experiences, mutual support, and building partnerships for future projects and initiatives. Participation in inspiring events, such as the summer school of activism, motivates participants to further engage in innovative approaches in their work and contribute to strengthening their involvement and ability to inspire and motivate young people with whom they work. The project will provide participants with insight into international contexts of youth work and activism, giving them new perspectives, and understanding of global issues, and adopting international approaches and best practices that they can apply in their domestic work. Based on the knowledge and inspiration gained from the project, participants in the activities will strengthen their capacity for project development and youth activities in their organizations, focusing on environmental protection, human rights, social justice, etc. Involvement of emerging activists in remote border regions of Georgia also brings significant current issues to the public space at the local level (threats to civil liberties, limitations on democratic decision-making processes, foreign policy direction), maintains an open social discourse, and engages in addressing local problems.
