Objectives

Drawing inspiration from this enterprise, and building upon our own previous experiences, the aim of the project was to encounter people who were taking action for the climate and the planet in our immediate environment, in the Czech Republic and in France. We wished to document their vision and what they achieved through interviews, observations and even by making a practical contribution to their actions if the opportunity arose. The aim of the project was also to help the students to acquire a better understanding of the current situation, resorting to scientific research. We therefore planned to hold an online seminar that was attended by students from both schools and that could have been open to students from other schools interested in sharing this part of the project. The project also aimed to provide students with concrete competences of communicating their ideas and bringing them into action.

Background

The theme and the project came directly from the needs of the students. They suggested the form and the content. They participated in the whole process, communicating and negotiating about concrete steps, cooperating with teachers and with their peers. The whole process aimed at supporting the students on their way to becoming confident, anchored, open, committed and above all independent learners. The project also targeted the need for laboratory schools to innovate, validate and spread educational approaches. The outputs of the project were the basis for the innovation of school educational programs; they led to the strengthening of civic competences and supported language competence. Additionally, thanks to international cooperation, we had the opportunity to strengthen students' language skills (in English, the communication language of the project). The students were exposed to two secondary languages — French and Czech — during the project, which enhanced their international mindedness. Last but not least, the network of European laboratory schools was also strengthened.
