Objectives

Esslingen University of Applied Sciences pursues a broad-based internationalization strategy and maintains a wide range of university partnerships worldwide. This internationalization strategy is an integral component of the university’s structural and development plan. Participation in the project reported here aims to achieve the objectives of the structural and development plan and to implement the milestones of the institutional modernization and internationalization strategy. Esslingen University pursues the following fundamental goals with its internationalization strategy: International experiences during studies should be made available to as many students as possible, in line with a holistic, Humboldtian approach to education. Access to international education and training programs should be improved, particularly for participants from groups that have previously been underrepresented or disadvantaged. Opportunities for developing intercultural competencies and acquiring foreign language skills should be available to all university members.Ensuring modern educational standards by fostering international employability among graduates. The internationalization of research activities should be advanced, and projects to promote international relations between program and partner countries should be initiated across all faculties. The educational policy goals of the European Union serve as the foundation for the institutional's internationalization strategy. Participation in the Erasmus+ Program is a central element for Essingen University in achieving these goals. The university applies the principles of the Bologna Process, thereby supporting the implementation of reforms and contributing to the recognition of academic qualifications across Europe. Study or internship stays abroad, short-term visits, and thesis work should be available to the largest possible number of students, regardless of their personal, social, or economic background, and over the long term become the norm through increased participation. International experiences within the framework of the Erasmus+ program enable students and university staff to experience Europe’s diversity, a European identity, and Europe’s cultural heritage. Furthermore, participation in Erasmus+ mobility programs promotes the acquisition and improvement of language skills as well as intercultural competencies among students and university staff. Complementing this, Esslingen University offers a wide range of language courses to all university members. Erasmus+ mobility programs are a key element in ensuring the international employability of graduates and addressing the growing demand for high-quality professional and personal skills in Europe, helping to address labor shortages, particularly in the fields of technology and healthcare. As a university of applied sciences, Esslingen University is especially well-positioned to meet these demands through its specialized and practice-oriented approach. The integration of theory and practice at our university of applied sciences gives international mobility a special significance for acquiring practical skills. Collaboration with industry partners and social institutions within the framework of international cooperation is also an important component of the university’s strategy, with Erasmus+ playing a decisive role. The university expresses this goal through regular exchange activities, double-degree programs, and specific cooperative projects with individual partners in industry, science, and the social sector. The promotion of entrepreneurial thinking and action, as well as the fostering of an entreprenerurial spirit, is advanced through the "GründES!" startup initiativ and the Entrepreneurship School, along with resulting international cooperation projects. Moreover, participation in the Erasmus+ program enables underrepresented groups to access educational opportunities regardless of their social or economic background. The organizational and financial support provided by the Erasmus+ program ensures equal educational opportunities for all, aligning with the university's own objectived. Esslingen University pursues a holistic internationalization strategy and supports not only student mobilitiy but also staff mobility, providing the necessary resources for this. Through the annual organization of International Weeks, the university contributes to European cooperation and fosters awareness of European identity.
