Objectives

The Hochschule Niederrhein regards internationalisation as an indispensable part of its educational mission and pursues the guiding principle of ‘overcoming boundaries’ by systematically promoting international experiences for students, lecturers and staff. Key components of this internationalisation strategy are ‘on-campus’ internationalisation (international students, English-taught degree programmes/modules, double degrees), as well as the mobility of students and staff and the initiation or further development of international cooperation projects. Through its participation in the Erasmus+ programme, the institution offers its students and staff a wide range of opportunities for professional and personal development in an international context. During their studies, students gain insights into intercultural differences in both academic teaching and the world of work, thereby acquiring a solid foundation for future roles in globally active companies both at home and abroad. Staff, too, can use this opportunity to expand their international skills and gain valuable experience for their professional practice. The Hochschule Niederrhein maintains a broad network of cooperation with numerous Erasmus partners and other higher education institutions worldwide; this network is predominantly department-led and is to be maintained in the long term and strategically expanded. In the 2024 call for proposals, the operational focus was on implementing high-quality mobility schemes (study, placements, teaching and training mobility) and complementing these with Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) to facilitate accessible international learning experiences and encourage interest in longer stays.
