Objectives

The aim was to organise two multinational meetings with around seven partner countries. The first meeting focussed on peaceful, interreligious and intercultural coexistence in Europe and the second was intended to give the young people a better understanding of the structure, history and function of the EU. Central European values such as respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality and the protection of human rights, including the rights of minorities and marginalised groups, were put into practice in the workshops and made tangible for the participants. Through international exchange, the aim was to acquire knowledge about the EU and Europe as well as the different approaches to European policy in the various European countries, thereby strengthening the basis for the young people's political participation. By acquiring intercultural competences, the understanding of the different political viewpoints, situations and traditions of the participating countries was improved. In this way, emerging and common clichés and prejudices in the long term. The young people recognised that joint multinational understanding and political participation is very much possible together, contrary to the emerging national trends in the world. The most important goal was therefore to give the young people the motivation to stand up for democracy and co-determination. As a result, an international network was also to be created to facilitate mobility for the participants and enable them to exchange ideas in the future. An in-depth evaluation with the leaders and participants revealed that all the objectives of the youth exchange had been achieved. Through the youth exchange, they deepened their knowledge of the structure and function of the European Union and European politics through intensive exchange, debates and discussions. By working together in the self-designed multinational workshops (short film, drama, film spot, reporter, music at the first meeting and workshops on intercultural and interreligious dialogue at the second), the young people had to deal intensively with European issues and coexistence in order to be able to reflect on them in their work. Many participants only learnt about other political situations from the media. This gave them a direct opportunity to talk to representatives from the respective countries in order to clarify open questions. The knowledge gained was then also used for the workshops, which were also multinational in composition. The discussion room was very open and safe for all participants. Everyone was given the chance to express themselves on the topic. This encouraged openness and tolerance among the young people. Thanks to the multinational workshops and the multinational room allocations as well as the country evenings and joint evenings in the fireside lounge, all participants made new contacts, made friends and gained a good insight into foreign customs, habits, languages etc. during this youth exchange. This showed many that despite national differences and different views, peaceful, even friendly co-operation is not only possible, but also positive. As the main language of communication was English, the young people's language skills were strengthened immensely. For many, this youth exchange was an opportunity to improve their skills. Through the preparation in their home countries, the young people were able to critically analyse the political situation in their country. Furthermore, the intercultural dialogue during the youth exchange helped them to develop a feeling for the political work and political consensus of the European Union.
