With the update of the Local Development Plan for Nuremberg for 2022, which was also approved by the Youth Welfare Committee, the City of Nuremberg, together with the joiN network, has set itself three key goals for 2027: 1. More international mobility opportunities for young people 2. Networking, training and support for (local) professionals 3. Structural and personnel anchoring – creation of a specialist office for international youth work in Nuremberg Since Nuremberg was accredited (2023), the gradual expansion of the field of international youth work (IYW) has begun. The expansion relates to young people as well as professionals and their organisations and structures. So far, we have succeeded in broadening, further developing and making international youth work more sustainable in relation to young people and professionals. We can pursue this quantitative and qualitative expansion with the support of Erasmus+. It should also be noted that this process is still in the development stage. The activities carried out (youth exchanges and seminars for professionals) have enabled significantly more people to gain mobility experience than in the past. In connection with this, international youth work has become more present in administration, politics and urban society. During the project period, we tried out and tested new things, discarded some of them – we learn from every measure we take. Together with our partners abroad and our colleagues in Nuremberg, we have already achieved one thing: international youth work and international mobility measures such as youth and professional exchanges are once again much more important in open child and youth work institutions, and youth exchanges are once again more prominent among our network partners in Nuremberg and Nuremberg's twin cities. With the appointment of a specialist position for international youth work at the Youth Welfare Office from 1 November 2025, the third objective of the Local Development Plan will now also be implemented: partially funded by the Bavarian Youth Exchange Foundation and initially limited until the end of 2027. We are still at the beginning of an exciting journey, which we would like to take with as many young people as possible in the coming years. They deserve it.
