Objectives

For many years, the IJA has been an integral part of youth work at the Wiesbaden Social Work Office. Following successful individual applications for trainings and youth exchange, some with up to four exchanges in a maximum project period of 24 months, the decision was made in the summer of 2021 to take advantage of the new opportunity and apply for an accreditation in the E+ program “section Youth", advised by the National Agency ERASMUS+ Germany. The application for the accreditation was successful. The first call for funds was made in February 2022. As in the nationwide “Kommune Goes international” process that began in 2011, the primary goal of the department of social affairs Wiesbaden is to create access to international mobility projects for “young people with fewer opportunities” – “International Youthwork for ALL.” This goal is achieved through the accreditation via cooperation with municipal youth centers in “neighborhoods with increased needs,” with school social work, youth career assistance, and educational assistance. The accreditation involves both: youth exchanges with new partner organizations and exchanges with organizations with which there has been a trusting cooperation for many years. For example with organisations in the twin city network Wiesbaden or network of partner regions of the state Hesse. In terms of contenct, the projects in the accreditation deal with the three goals of “political education,” “digitalization in youth work,” and “(ecological) sustainability.” The goal of the Department of Social Affairs Wiesbaden to enable “young people with fewer opportunities” to participate in international mobility programs is, in the opinion of the “Wiesbaden International” specialist unit—and also external specialists in international youth work— achieved.
