Objectives

The aim of the youth exchange was to contribute to intercultural understanding and friendship between peoples. It enriched the participants in many different ways and raised their awareness of cultural and intercultural issues. This fostered tolerance towards different perspectives and behaviors. Another goal of the exchange was to spark curiosity about and interest in other cultures and ways of life among the participants. Through the school project day, the public cinema event, and the cultural festival, the intention was to reach as many people as possible beyond the youth exchange group, to enable intercultural encounters, and to promote interest in other cultures. Media literacy and entrepreneurial thinking were strengthened among the participants through online meetings, as well as the planning and implementation of workshops. The project raised awareness not only among the participants but also among students at the partner school regarding ecological issues, and it provided both subject-related knowledge and practical, action-oriented skills. It also aimed to inspire participants to engage in voluntary work. Participants improved their foreign language skills, and many of the students who took part in the school workshops used their English practically for the first time when interacting with the exchange participants—an experience that can strongly motivate them to further improve their English. Through the youth exchange, all participants gained a wide range of new and meaningful experiences that contributed to the development of their personalities, self-confidence, and overall ability to act independently. They got to know peers of the same age with similar interests but living in different circumstances. Stepping outside their comfort zones—such as staying in a Muslim country, leading a workshop in front of a school class, or performing on stage in front of an audience—was an important part of this experience. The project also aimed to achieve a broad public impact and to create encounters beyond the exchange group. In doing so, it sought to raise awareness of ecological issues and civic engagement among a wider audience, to foster interest in other cultures, and to promote openness to the world.
