The project Harmony Beyond Borders, implemented in Großerlach, Germany from 9 to 18 December 2024, aimed to raise awareness among young people on the issues of racism and xenophobia and encouraged them to take an active role in combating these problems. The initiative brought together participants from Germany, Türkiye, Greece, and North Macedonia to engage in artistic, cultural, and interactive non-formal learning activities that promoted intercultural understanding. We recognized that young people represented a significant force in advancing cultural integration and social cohesion. Their energy, creativity, and open-mindedness were critical in addressing the social divides that racism and xenophobia continued to create in European societies. Our activities were designed to give them the tools and space to express themselves, learn from each other, and understand the value of diversity. The overall goal of our project was to promote cultural integration through cultural and artistic activities and to strengthen young people's desire to fight against racism and xenophobia. We based this vision on the principle that “The struggle for universal human rights should not only be limited to legal and political adjustments but should also address individuals' hearts.” To help us achieve our general objective, we identified the following specific objectives: To increase cultural awareness and mutual understanding among young people, making them knowledgeable about the lifestyles, traditions, and values of people from different cultures. To enable young people to develop empathy and effective communication skills through art and cultural activities. To raise awareness among young people about combating racism and xenophobia and encourage them to take an active role. To promote the coming together and collaboration of young people from different cultural backgrounds through the organization of cultural and artistic activities. Through this project, we created a safe and inclusive space where participants developed emotional awareness, tackled prejudices, and built long-lasting cross-cultural friendships.
