Objectives

EnCourage4 was an action-oriented youth exchange that successfully empowered young people with fewer opportunities through personal development, social inclusion, and intercultural learning. Building on the previous editions, it once again used The Hero’s Journey framework, guiding participants through a reflective process on their growth, challenges, and achievements. All objectives of the project were fully achieved. Continuous observation, reflection sessions, evaluations, and the Youthpass process confirmed clear progress among participants, group leaders, and partner organisations. The project effectively promoted youth mobility by raising awareness of opportunities for volunteering, studying, and working abroad. For many, it was their first international experience—one that expanded their comfort zones, built confidence, and motivated them to take part in future mobility programmes. Participants developed strong social, personal, and civic competences through teamwork, outdoor activities, and creative exercises. They learned responsibility, empathy, and collaboration, contributing to a greater sense of belonging both within the group and in their local communities. Cultural awareness and tolerance were strengthened through storytelling and intercultural exchange, helping participants embrace diversity and European values such as inclusion and solidarity. Sub-objectives were also achieved. Participants recognised their learning outcomes via Youthpass, and youth leaders enhanced their professional and intercultural skills. The use of English throughout the project improved communication and language confidence. Partner organisations gained new tools and methods—especially the Hero’s Journey approach—which they have since integrated into their local activities. The project exceeded expectations: participants initiated more than the planned follow-up actions, including local exhibitions, workshops, and online storytelling projects. The cooperation among partner organisations deepened, inspiring further collaborations and adaptations of the project model in other countries. Aside from minor logistical adjustments, EnCourage4 met all its goals. It successfully inspired young people to become active, open-minded, and responsible European citizens while strengthening the capacities of youth workers and partner organisations across Europe.
