Objectives

“Renewable & Youth” addressed consumerism and eco-sustainability by enabling young people to understand how everyday purchasing, food choices and product use contribute to waste, pollution and climate change, and by supporting them to replace unsustainable habits with practical, low-cost and realistic alternatives. The project was designed to move participants from general awareness to measurable action, using non-formal education, peer learning and hands-on practice connected to four daily-life sectors: food, fashion, hygiene and home supplies. Our objectives were to: (1) strengthen critical thinking about consumption by helping participants analyse needs vs. wants, recognise social media/advertising influence, understand eco-labels, and identify greenwashing; (2) build concrete green skills (reduce–reuse–recycle, waste prevention, smarter purchasing, product life-cycle thinking, DIY/upcycling solutions) that participants can apply immediately at home; (3) ensure inclusion and equal participation by actively involving young people with fewer opportunities (economic, geographical, social or cultural barriers) and providing tailored support so everyone could contribute meaningfully; (4) develop transversal competences through intercultural cooperation—communication in an international setting, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and active citizenship—so participants become confident multipliers; and (5) achieve wider community impact by producing dissemination-ready outputs (e.g., digital materials, eco-rules/checklists, workshop formats) and organising follow-up sharing activities in each partner country. These objectives were aligned with the UN SDGs on responsible consumption and climate action and with the European Green Deal, contributing to a transition that reduces resource use and emissions while ensuring a fair approach that leaves no person or place behind, especially young people from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds who are often underrepresented yet strongly affected by environmental and economic change.
