With this project we wanted to explore how FILMMAKING can function as a tool for QUEER EXPRESSION, COMMUNITY BUILDING, and SOCIAL RESISTANCE. The project brought together young LGBTQIA+ people and allies from different countries to create a space where participants could experiment creatively, exchange experiences, and reflect critically on representation, identity, and power in cinema and society. Queer stories and identities are still often underrepresented or stereotypically portrayed in mainstream media. Many participants came from contexts where queer people have limited opportunities to see themselves represented in film or to express their own stories publicly. The project therefore aimed to empower participants to reclaim storytelling through filmmaking and to use creative media as a form of visibility, dialogue, and resistance. The project combined NON-FORMAL EDUCATION, CREATIVE PRACTICE, and INTERCULTURAL LEARNING to allow participants to explore both the artistic and social dimensions of queer cinema. Through workshops, collaborative exercises, film screenings, and discussions, participants developed a deeper understanding of how cinema can challenge dominant narratives and create new spaces for representation. The main objectives of the project were: > To EXPLORE QUEER CINEMA as a form of artistic expression, activism, and social dialogue. > To DEVELOP PRACTICAL FILMMAKING SKILLS through hands-on workshops covering storytelling, filming, editing, and visual experimentation. > To STRENGTHEN PARTICIPANTS’ CONFIDENCE in expressing their identities, perspectives, and experiences through creative media. > To CREATE A SAFER SPACE where participants from different countries could share experiences, build trust, and learn from each other. > To PROMOTE INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE and mutual understanding between participants from different social, cultural, and political contexts. > To ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY BUILDING and solidarity among queer participants and allies across borders. > To SUPPORT ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP by encouraging participants to use creative tools to address social issues and engage with their communities. Another important objective was to create a learning environment where participants could develop both technical and personal competences. The project aimed not only to teach filmmaking techniques but also to strengthen participants’ ability to collaborate, communicate across cultures, and critically reflect on media and representation. Living together in nature during the exchange also played an important role in the project design. It allowed participants to step outside their usual environments, build stronger interpersonal connections, and create a supportive atmosphere where creativity and reflection could flourish. By the end of the project, participants had not only developed practical filmmaking skills but also created a series of short films expressing their perspectives on identity, community, resistance, and belonging. At the same time, the project aimed to inspire participants to continue using creative tools in their local communities and to remain engaged in cultural and social initiatives. The project overall sought to demonstrate how CREATIVE PRACTICES such as filmmaking can empower young people, strengthen communities, and contribute to more inclusive cultural narratives across Europe and beyond.
