#Demokratie und Du aimed to empower young people to actively participate in our democratic society by connecting youthful energy with opportunities, strategies, and tools for participation. To achieve this overarching goal, the following objectives were formulated: One objective of the project was to motivate young people to take an active role in democratic life within European society. They were to be empowered to form their own opinions, identify relevant issues and challenges, and become familiar with existing channels and mechanisms of political participation. Furthermore, the project sought to promote open dialogue between young people and political decision-makers. This direct exchange was intended to empower young people to voice their concerns in the political arena while strengthening their confidence in the responsiveness of the political system. By experiencing that their voices are taken seriously, their trust in democracy was expected to grow. At the same time, political decision-makers were to be encouraged and inspired to consider the interests of future generations in their current policy decisions. Another central aspect of the project was to connect young people with one another by showing them how to promote solidarity and work together toward common goals—instead of relying solely on individual efforts which are often less effective than coordinated, organized initiatives. The project also aimed to enable young people to actively shape their own future, articulate their needs, and engage politically and socially. To this end, they were to gain knowledge about how to advocate for their interests and initiate democratic debates that could ultimately lead to political action. Through #Demokratie und Du, young people were encouraged to explore the full spectrum of democratic participation—far beyond elections and protests—and to actively use these opportunities to help shape the democratic Europe of the future.
