Our primary goal was to empower young people to become active agents of change in the transition toward sustainable and climate-friendly food systems. We wanted to bridge the gap between young citizens and policymakers by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and platforms needed to influence food policy at both the local and European levels. Through this project, we aimed to transform passive consumption into active, informed participation, ensuring that youth voices are heard in the fight against climate change. The specific objectives of our project were: To increase knowledge and awareness: We aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the environmental impact of food choices, the importance of local production, and strategies for reducing food waste. To develop practical advocacy skills: We sought to equip young people with the ability to draft advocacy letters, engage with public institutions, and plan effective awareness campaigns. To foster active citizenship: A key objective was to encourage youth to participate in democratic processes, specifically by connecting them with decision-makers like the Jugendrat Stuttgart and local authorities. To co-create sustainable resources: We aimed to produce a tangible output—the "Sustainable Food Guideline"—to serve as a shared resource for individuals and organizations beyond the project’s duration. To build a transnational network: We worked to establish lasting cooperation between youth organizations from Germany, Türkiye, Romania, Latvia, Slovakia, and Ukraine to share best practices for sustainable development.
