The “politikorange” project aimed to actively engage young people in political and social discourse and to make their voices heard in the public sphere. Against the backdrop of current social challenges, such as political polarisation, growing mistrust in institutions and a complex news landscape, the project sought to create spaces where young people could engage with politics and the media in an informed, critical and independent manner. A key objective was to teach and strengthen media and democratic literacy. Participants were to be empowered to apply journalistic fundamentals such as research, source criticism and the presentation of information in practice, thereby developing a better understanding of political processes and public communication. At the same time, the aim was to foster and deepen young people’s interest in politics and society. Furthermore, the project aimed to strengthen participation and self-efficacy: Young people should not merely be consumers of media, but should produce content themselves, set the agenda and contribute their perspectives. Through the peer-to-peer approach and active involvement in the planning, implementation and evaluation of activities, democratic participation was brought to life in a practical way. In the long term, the project should help to increase the diversity of young voices in journalism, strengthen networks of young media makers and contribute to a vibrant, pluralistic and democratic public sphere.
