The project “Pride: Our Rights – Our Future” aimed to contribute to the protection and advancement of the rights of LGBTIQ* individuals while fostering a more inclusive and tolerant Europe. It sought to strengthen awareness of the historical and current situation of LGBTIQ* people, with particular focus on Germany and Romania, and to analyze the political and social landscapes in order to understand the implications of discriminatory policies. A central ambition was to foster community building on both local and transnational levels by exploring how queer communities are structured and supported, while also creating a safe space for young queer people to share their personal experiences and perceptions of freedom, rights, equality, discrimination, and violence. The project’s objectives were to examine the situation of LGBTIQ* individuals in Europe from a broad European perspective, to study national and local conditions in Germany and Romania including their queer histories, and to reflect on the personal experiences of the participants themselves. It also placed emphasis on participant-driven approaches, ensuring that workshops, creative expression, discussions, and attendance at Pride events were shaped by the young people involved. A further objective was to empower participants with communication, leadership, and intercultural skills so that they could engage more effectively in advocacy, whether through political dialogue, community initiatives, or broader civic engagement. Ultimately, the project wanted to empower queer youth, promote cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen advocacy for LGBTIQ* rights while building lasting connections between Cologne and Cluj and inspiring a generation of young people to challenge stereotypes and contribute to a more inclusive society.
