Objectives

The project was implemented with partners from North Macedonia (host), Türkiye, Germany, and Hungary, involving a total of 40 participants, including facilitators, accompanying persons, and decision-makers. At least 5 participants from each country came from fewer opportunities backgrounds, ensuring that voices of marginalized youth were represented and supported throughout the project. The main aim of our project was to empower young people to become active citizens and take an active role in democratic life, particularly at the local level. By implementing this project, we wanted to create a space where young people from different countries could exchange experiences, analyze democratic practices in their communities, and strengthen their capacity to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes. We aimed to: Raise young people’s awareness about their rights, roles, and impact in democratic societies; Increase their motivation and capacity to engage in civic and political processes, both formally and informally; Enable direct dialogue between young participants and decision-makers, and reduce the perceived distance between them; Promote the use of non-formal education tools to strengthen youth competences in critical thinking, communication, and advocacy; Empower disadvantaged youth by giving them active roles and visibility in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities. Through interactive workshops, open debates, simulation games, and the use of the 5D Model for Active Citizenship (Nature, Language, Thought, Emotional Depth, Behaviour), the project encouraged young people to discover their own potential as agents of change in their communities. By the end of the project, participants developed concrete proposals to address issues affecting youth, improved their confidence in public expression, and built long-term connections for future civic initiatives within and beyond their countries. Through interactive activities, institutional visits, creative sessions, and daily reflection groups, the project aimed to motivate and prepare participants to act as ambassadors (to spread the messages we have created all together) in their communities, promoting inclusive and sustainable youth participation beyond the duration of the exchange.
