Objectives

The project set out to revitalise and further develop Orange Magazine as a participatory and inclusive platform for young journalists in Europe. Rather than establishing something entirely new, we aimed to build on the magazine’s existing community and infrastructure within the EYP network, offering enhanced opportunities for professional development, networking and cross-border cooperation. In the post-pandemic context, we recognised the need for a space in which young people could exchange ideas, share stories rooted in their realities and collaborate on issues of common concern, and Orange Magazine was ideally placed to fulfil this role. The project was intended to combine platform development with two mobility activities, which focused on solutions journalism and environmental journalism. These themes were chosen because they are highly relevant to the challenges young people face today and because they provide practical approaches for constructive, future-oriented reporting. Through the exchanges, participants were able to gain hands-on skills in researching, framing and producing content on pressing societal issues. This enabled them to return to their communities with the confidence and competence to contribute to public debate in an informed and constructive way. The objectives were threefold: to reinvent Orange Magazine as an inclusive online space that fosters exchange and collaboration among young journalists from diverse backgrounds; to empower those journalists with the competences needed to produce robust journalism on European issues while promoting democratic values and media literacy; and to foster intercultural dialogue and cooperation across borders by leveraging the reach of EYP and its member organisations. By pursuing these aims, we sought to shape a new generation of media professionals who can address complex issues with creativity, responsibility and journalistic integrity.
