Objectives

The crises the world is facing, and not only the ecological one, require adequate skills and competences to address them in a way which is beneficial for the whole global society. The partnership behind this project considers a wise, inclusive, collective leadership, together with clear models for facilitating group processes, being crucial skills to influence our common future in a positive way. We think that young people need to take action and to enhance their capacity to contribute to the change, demand actions, and lead other young people to take responsibility and step into their power. The aim of our project COCLEA: Collective Climate Leadership was to empower more youth workers and give them the tools to take active, confident, and conscious leadership roles in response to the climate crisis and broader environmental challenges. We wanted to develop and strengthen the competences of collective leadership, group facilitation, and holistic sustainability in the youth workers of our organizations — the skills that, in our opinion, are increasingly necessary in the face of complex global challenges and navigating quick changes. We intended to create a space for applied non-formal learning, open-minded exchange, mutual support, and long-term community building among our youth workers from diverse backgrounds, with special emphasis on ecovillages and other sustainable grassroots initiatives. Our broader aspiration, closely connected with the training course content and our dissemination strategy, was to showcase the climate-oriented initiatives and methods of our organizations to a wider European and global society and thus attract more energy and awareness into the global shift to sustainable lifestyles and structures by weaving a stronger network of youth workers across Europe and beyond, working in both formal and non-formal contexts and elevating the quality, visibility, and impact of youth work in the field of sustainability. Our objectives with this project were: - to provide youth workers with skills, knowledge and tools for collective leadership, group facilitation and holistic sustainability - to increase the capacities of the participating organisations to use collective leadership in their work with youth. - to create a rich exchange between youth workers from different sectors and approaches, co-creating together at least one new non-formal education tool to use with youth around collective leadership for the climate crisis. - to promote the participation of 20 participants with fewer opportunities - to create an online database with at least 50 youth workers working with collective leadership, facilitation and climate change, and thus developing a community that will follow up with future projects. - to organise an online Ecovillage Youth Worker Fair, showcasing experiences, methods and approaches and creating exchanges and debates with a wider youth worker audience.
