Our primary reason for creating this project was to meaningfully contribute to the cultivation of a harmonious, sustainable, and emotionally resilient global society by addressing the urgent global challenge of climate change through emotionally resonant digital storytelling. Recognising that conventional, more formal approaches often fail to emotionally engage individuals, especially young people, we aimed at activating curiosity around climate change, emotional awareness, and motivation through the power of participatory documentary filmmaking. We wanted to go beyond simply spreading important information. Our goal was to bridge the fear and emotional disconnection many people feel towards the environment and climate change, tackle the psychological barriers that often paralyse action, and offer safe space for dialogue around the internal conflicts that arise when balancing personal, societal, and environmental needs. By integrating environmental topics with personal narratives, emotions, and artistic expression, we intended to provide transformative experiences that do not just exert pressure but rather inspire lasting sustainable engagement and action. Our broader aspiration was to co-create a ripple effect where emotionally connected individuals initiate further change within their organizations and communities. The project was designed with one overarching aim and a series of specific, measurable objectives: General objective: To harness the power of digital storytelling as a transformative educational and communication tool to activate emotional engagement, enhance sustainability awareness, and build youth workers’ capacity to address climate change and emotional well-being. Specific objectives: - Empower youth workers with the knowledge, skills, and tools to effectively address climate change topics, promote sustainability, and manage their emotions - Empower youth workers with the knowledge and skills of using digital storytelling methodologies within youth work contexts - Promote emotional connectivity and empathy towards climate issues, encouraging individuals to take proactive measures and advocate for positive change - Raise awareness among youth workers about the interconnectedness of climate change and emotional well-being -Foster collaboration and exchange of ideas among youth workers/ organisations/ communities, promoting collective action and solutions-oriented approaches to the project’s topics - Inspire positive change in attitudes, behaviours, and policies related to climate change, ultimately contributing to the creation of a harmonious and resilient society This project not only aimed to build competencies but also to deeply connect and ignite hearts. By placing emotional engagement at the centre of environmental storytelling, we wanted to create lasting shifts in both personal and collective consciousness — opening the way toward a more united, aware, compassionate, and proactive generation.
